The Audiovisual Media Authority (AMA) is Albania's independent regulatory body responsible for licensing and overseeing the country's broadcasting and audiovisual media sector. Established in 2007 as a statutory authority of the Albanian Government, AMA operates under Law No. 97/2013 "On Audiovisual Media in the Republic of Albania" and serves as the primary regulator for audio and audiovisual broadcasting services, including television, radio, and digital media platforms.
The authority's core functions include issuing and revoking broadcasting licenses, ensuring fair competition in the media market, monitoring compliance with broadcasting regulations and ethical standards, and protecting consumer interests in electronic media services. AMA also supervises the implementation of the Broadcasting Code, resolves disputes between media service providers, and maintains the official Register of Media Service Providers while working to promote media literacy and professional standards across Albania's audiovisual landscape.
